Do you know what Google My Business is?
YES – If you answered yes is your business listed? And have you claimed your business listing?
If you have answered no to one of the above questions I recommend you read on….
NO – If no then definitely read on….
Google Places for Business is a FREE tool to list your business which greatly improves your chance of being found online. So even if you do not have a website or use any social media tool you can be listed in Google My Business and be found.
To create or claim your listing you will need to create a Google account. I highly recommend you start by creating a Google Gmail account. Once you have a Gmail account the Google world is your oyster. It means you can sign up for any of the FREE Google tools.
I also recommend when creating a Gmail account that you use your business name. For example I set up firstname.lastname@example.org (the full version build your business online was taken). This means that you have a ‘branded’ Gmail and hence Google account. This can also help you get found online.
If you are already listed in Google My Business, find that listing and click on the option on the right hand side that says “Is this your business? Manage this page” see image below.
After you click on the “Manage this page” option you will be asked to login to your Google Account or Create a Google Account. Once logged in you will be able to add loads of information about your business.
Google needs to verify that you are the actual owner of this business. There are a couple of options for verification. Choose the most appropriate one for you which could be getting a postcard in the mail which will contain a verification pin. When you receive your pin you log back in and enter it and your updated listing will go live.
